No Responce from modem

There are a number of possible reasons that the Survey Controller may report an no responce from modem error when starting a survey

Errors that will have the Survey Controller time out, after about 60 seconds, and display a No responce from modem message

  • Make sure the modem is powered on and connected
  • Cables
  • Baud Rates
  • Make sure that the modem is not configured for numeric responces
    • It may be a DIP switch setting
    • You can solve this by adding a V1 to the init string so the default would be AT V1 &D0
    • You can check the setting by typing, in hyperterminal, ATZ. If the modem replies with a 0 and not OK then it is configured for numeric responces
  • There is a problem with the init string.

Solving init string problems

  • Set the init string to AT V1 E1
  • If you get no responce from modem you have a cabling, flow control problem
  • If you get continuing startup then we have a good connection.
  • Add the init string elements one at a time until you find what is causing the problems.
    • If &D0 is causing problems see the DTR page.
    • If &S5 is causing  problems see the DTR page.
  • You may think that by removing the init string you get further, you don't. In these cases it is always the comms issue that you are just avoiding. It will look like it is dialing but nothing will happen.
