Basic Setup

This basic setup page indicates the recommended set-up for the modems. The trouble shooting section may indicate changes to these settings, but everything starts with these basic settings. Also 99% of systems will work with the basic settings

Note that the use of a 4700 or a 37779 Rev A will mean that a cheater cable must be created.

Port

3

Any of the ports with flow control will work

Baud Rate

19200

Higher rates not allways supported by the modems, over air links are today less than 19200 .

Init String

AT &D0

Ignore DTR. If this command causes problems you may have to make a cable, see the DTR page.

The Standard Rover Cable solves this probem. When the standard rover adapter cable is in use the init string should be empty.

Before making a cable try having the init string empty, as a number of phones will work without this.

Hang Up

AT H0

Leave it as this, otherwise the modem will always be connected

Dial prefix

ATDT

Leave this at this this setting, otherwise the rover will not dial out!

number to dial

nnn

Enter the phone number that you would dial on a phone.

Init String

AT &D0 S0=1

Ignore DTR. If this command causes problems you mayt likely have to make a cable, see the DTR page.
S0=1 tells the modem to asnwer after 1 ring.
Most likely you will have to see the, base modem hangs up while answering the phone page
The standard Base adapter solves both of these problems. When using the base adapter cable the init string should be AT S0=1

Hang Up

AT H0

Leave it as this, otherwise the modem will always be connected

CTS enabled

Yes/No

A number of Survey Controller versions force flow control.
A number of cables require flow control to be on.
To turn off flow control may require a extra setting on the modem.
With a 4700 no is prefered

It the event that you have problems with the above settings you can go though the trouble shooting section, or assuming that you have a 5700. You can create these basic cheater cables. Which will work with 99%+ of the phones. If you create the cables you can remove the &D0 from the init strings, so th rover init string becomes blank.

Standard 5700 Rover Cheater Cable

This is the standard DTR cheater cable. Try your phone without this cable, as at least 75% of the phones don't need this cable.
