Old Rover Setup

Setting up the rover CDPD modem

Turn off flow control

    Use the command
    ATS211=1
    this ignores DTR.

    Use the command
    AT\Q0
    to turn off flow control. This is not required for the 5700

There are two choices on how you can configure your sage as a rover

  1. Use the data collectors cell phone support
  2. Have the modem connect automatically

Recommended method:

Previously it was recommend that you have the modem connect automatically. In pratice I now believe that it is simpler to use the Data collector to control the connection.

Data Collector based setup

    In the data collector select Cellular phone as your radio type. Instead of the phone number just enter the IP address and port of the base station. For example 163.254.3.2:5001

Automatic connection

Set the default power up mode

    Use the command
    ATMD3
    To set the default mode on power up

    This method can be easier if you are just connecting to one service each time.

    Set IP address of the base modem

    Use the command
    ATS53=xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx/p
    Where xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx is the IP address of your base modem

    The port (p) is not important, as long as the base and the rover have the same value.

    You can use 0.0.0.0 for the address which meansthe rover will work with any base that sends it data. This is the recommended method

Set the rover to Listen for the base

    Use the command
    ATS83=2
    This sets the modem into listen mode.

Store the configuration

    Use the command
    AT&W
    This stores the information in permenant memory, so on power up it is used

There is NO setup required in the normal course of action for the rover unit. It will work automatically when turned on. Assuming the base is broadcasting of course
