Pin 9 on the DB 9 (and Pin 22 on the DB 25) is called the Ring Indicator (RI), this is not normally used by applications, it is not used in any RTK application.

It is recommended that this pin NOT be connected in any cables that you make. This is becaused there are some cables, mostly from Mapping, that have power out on this pin.

Connecting 12 volts to a cell phones RS-232 port may not be a good thing!!
