Procedure

You must tell the phone to answer as a data call.

To do this

1. Press the Menu: Softkey
2. Press 8 for the system menu
3. Press 4 for the data fax item
4. Press Next until you get a data option. Normally you want data until power off

Data Collector Set-up:

Init String AT &D0 S0=1

This string turns off the need for DTR (&D0)
And tells the system to answer the phone S0=1

No special cable is required to use the QCP-860 as a base with the 5700.

For the 4700/4800 it is best to turn off flow control. In this case a special cable is not required.

Not all versions of the Survey Controller software allow you to turn off flow control. In this case you need to

Loop CD (D-9 Pin 1) to RTS (D-9 Pin 7) (37779 Rev A)
Loop CD (D-9 Pin 1) to CTS (D-9 Pin 8) (37779 Rev B)
