The Nextel I700plus is a IDEN phone that is made by Motorola.

Nextel phones are quite popular because of the direct connect two way radio feature, although the addition of free cellular to cellular calling to a number of plans has made this less of an issue.

The Nextel Phone is well suited to GPS work for the following reasons

1. Removable battery, allows you to change batteries in the field.
2. Well supported by Nextel.
3. The Dual Port Adapter Cable, can use data and a car power adapter.
   Remember that there are camcorder battery  to female car cigarette lighter adapters
4. Is reasonably rugged
5. Works without a special cable as a rover with the 5700
6. It comes in Yellow

Important notes:

Nextel does not turn on CDS (Circuit switched data) on by default, you need to call 1-800-639-6111 opt 3 to get it turned on.

The RESET Command for nextel phones is AT Z0 not AT Z. Using ATZ will put the phone into package switched data mode (PDS). Which will not work.
