The Modem Test Program is a JCMBsoft utility (Http://JCMBsoft.Tripod.COM) that does basic testing of your modem to determine the features of the modem. The system will dial a number in area code 408 for less than a minute upto 5 times as part of the test. A local Earthlink.NET access number can be used instead. The basetest program can also be used. Generally it is easier to just call the 408 number. The test will test a number of optional features of the modem, these optional features can be used in creating a system without having to make cables. The system will provide a summary indicating the configuration to use to have the modem work. The FileMenu contains
Select the Port number from the list, the default is COM port 1. Select Detect/9600, Detect/19200, Detect 38400 to attempt to detect the modem at the given baud rate. The system will to the test at this baud rate. If you do not detect the modem it will automatically detect the modem at 19200 before doing the main test.
Rover Test: The rover test option will perform the tests for the modem features. A summary will be displayed at the end of the test indicating how well the modem will work. The results are copied to the clipboard. Save Settings test: For some applications, mainly base stations, it may be easier to save the settings. This test will check the behaviour of the modem with the savings of settings. | |||||
